about

The East Drive Serenade is still one of my favorite songs. It has hardly ever been played live but, it is a truly personal song and I was and still am, very proud of it. You will find references to football, both Cleveland and Miami. I always loved the line, "This is Shula's town." Haulover Park and other hauntings from growing up in the NMB, Miami's underground Chinatown and red light district, prevail through out the tune. Amidst all this, I managed to propose marriage. I wrote this song shortly after the proposal. I hope you enjoy.

lyrics

Sitting on my roof tonight, I light another "j"
The herb is good and the aroma sweet and hell, I feel okay
The dinosaurs, they walked this land but now, have gone extinct
Sometimes I feel a lot like them, I don't know anyone like me

Whoa oh, oh oh oh

I've read Marx' book of madness and I know what he means
But, I won't trade my sadness or opportunity
It's not a perfect world that we're living in
But, Miami has its good points and you are one of them

And I don't claim to be the one to save you from this place
But, if you come with me tonight, I'll surely find a way

You may not like the things I do, I'll probably never change
But, you know I'm in love with you and you keep playing the game
I may not know a lot, about the world around
But, I know the Browns belong in Cleveland and this is Shula's town

And I don't claim to be the one to save you from this place
But, if you come with me tonight, I'll surely find a way

And I don't claim to be the one to save you from this place
But, if you come with me tonight, I'll surely find a way

Sitting in Haulover Park with not that much to say
I gave to you a diamond ring that you put on right away
So I'm sitting on our roof tonight smoking another "j"
My life has turned out quite alright and thats the East Drive Serenade

Sitting on our roof tonight, hey, light me another "j"
My life has turned out quite alright and thats the East Drive Serenade

My life has turned out quite alright and thats the East Drive Serenade
